F2L stands for First Two Layers. This is where the first two layers are fully complete, and all that needs to be done is the last layer.

Firstly a cross is formed on the D layer. Then a corner and edge pair are grouped together, and inserted into the correct spot. An approximate 7 moves should be used for every corner-edge pair.

There are 41 cases for the F2L (42 cases including an already solved pair). These cases can either be learnt by memorization, or by using intuition.

For a good F2L, you need to look ahead. This means that as you are putting in the current pair, you are looking ahead the next pair. This is so you can do the F2L without pauses.
