If you wish to edit an article or edit an answer to a question, you will need to learn some rudimentary Wiki markup. A good place to start is the MediaWiki editing guide. Another way to learn is to simply look at how an existing article is written by clicking the "edit" or "view source" button at the top of that page.
[edit] Adding a question/answer
To teach the Oracle a new question/answer,
- Go to the Main Page and type in your question.
- Make sure the question is stated in a simple form and is grammatically correct, spelled correctly and uses correct casing, i.e. The first letter of certain words should be uppercase: the first word of the sentence, proper nouns, "I", and most trademarks.
- Click the "Ask" button.
- If the question was not found, then follow the "Create this article" link to create it.
- Write up the answer on the next page as Wiki text.
- Preview, and then save the result with a summary.
[edit] Different wordings of questions
Often, there will be several ways to ask the same question. The software driving the Oracle has been taught to understand that certain different wordings of a question are in fact equivalent. For example, "How do I ..." and "How can I ..." and "How do you" are all treated as the same. However, sometimes two questions are the same and the Oracle will not be able to detect this.
In such cases, you may create separate questions and redirect them to the main question. To do this, create the separate question following the instructions above, and on the edit page, input exactly one line as follows:
#REDIRECT [[existing-question]]
where existing-question is the existing question that you would like to redirect to.
You may find a list of existing redirects on the Special:Listredirects page.
